Members Remember — by Rachel Date Kawakami

Our family, the Dates — Rachel, Leatrice, Howard and Edith — comprised one third of the Sunday school back in the 50’s. The teachers were Madge Honda, Lily Miyasato and helpers, Charlotte Onishi and Helen Eto.

We walked from Gulick Avenue to Houghtailing Street, a good 20 to 30 minutes walk, each way, every Sunday.

We took turns leading the 8-fold Path. Since Rev. Yamasato did not speak English, we often had lay people giving talks. Some of the speakers were Ralph Presnall, Albert Miyasato, and Masao Ozaki. After the service we went downstairs to the social hall for activities.
