Go to the YouTube video (see below) and join us in ringing bells for peace at noon on September 21. In 2007, the youth of Hongwanji temples in Hawai’i joined together to lobby the Hawai’i State Legislature to declare September 21 as Peace Day in Hawai’i. On this day, we renew our commitment to promote peace programs, improve international relations, and increase educational awareness of peace.
Hawaiʻi is the first state in the United States to join more than 200 countries in celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace and Non-Violence that was established by a unanimous UN resolution in 1981.
Let us sound bells in our homes, in our temples, and in our communities to honor all those who have worked on behalf of peace in the world. Namo Amida Butsu.
